Panelist and top Cuban Art Deco experts, Universo Garcia and Pepe Menendez, take us on a historic tour of the unique Art Deco architectural gems throughout the city and the rich history of Art Deco graphic design by Enrique Garcia Cabrera in Havana, Cuba.
From iconic structures such as the Bacardi Building, America Theater, and the Lopez-Serrano, to small Art Deco homes, we will also look at some newly-remodeled Art Deco buildings which are now used for private businesses such as boutique hotels and restaurants. CBF published the Havana Art Deco Architectural Guide by Dr. Maria Elena MartĂn and organized TWO World Congresses on Art Deco.
The Havana Art Deco Architectural Guide is the first to recognize the enormous importance of Cuban Art Deco architecture. Featuring over 200 structures, including hotels, churches, theaters, social clubs, and private residences with street maps and archival and contemporary photographs supplement the texts.
Enrique GarcĂa Cabrera is considered one of the pioneers of Cuban graphic design of the 20th century.
One hundred years later, this book is an examination of his legacy and an anthology of his elaborate Cuban Art Deco illustrations.
