Recent advances in economic, commercial, financial and cooperation relations between Cuba and Russia focused the dialogue between the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment (Mincex), Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, with the president of the State Duma Russian Federation, Viacheslav Volodin, and with the President of the Russian Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko, in Moscow.

The consensus between the presidents of both countries and the excellent state of parliamentary relations were among the issues highlighted at the meeting, in which Viacheslav Volodin also highlighted the creation of the Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma and the National Assembly of Power Popular of Cuba, which met for the first time last year in Havana.

On the other hand, in the meeting with Valentina Matvienko, emphasis was placed on the signing, during 2023, of several documents to achieve the Russian Federation’s effective participation in the National Economic and Social Development Plan of Cuba until 2030.

When exchanging about the main sectors of interest, there was agreement that there are concrete results in several areas, especially in the medical-pharmaceutical industry and tourism. They also agreed that there is potential to be exploited in the sugar agroindustry, the development of renewable sources, and tourism itself, among others.

The Russian authorities expressed the coincident position of both countries in condemning the US blockade against Cuba and regarding the policy of unilateral sanctions against Russia.
